An Hour Away

Exactly one hour before the California Supreme Court rules on whether to uphold Prop 8, I needed some validation and I think I found it...

The National Organization for Marriage...gave me hives just typing it...the group against gay marriage because somehow it will ruin opposite marriage in some sort of hush hush conspiratorial way, has proudly posted the following Stephen Colbert clip on their website.

“I’ve always thought Stephen Colbert was a double-agent, pretending to pretend to be a conservative, to pull one over Hollywood. Now I’m sure,” said Maggie Gallagher, President of the National Organization for Marriage.

Maggie, sweetheart, I think you missed the biting satire that is the genius of The Colbert Report.

One more thing, Maggie, darling, Stephen and I were the only guys to be transferred Junior year into Northwestern's theatre program in 1984. (Granted his career launched just a bit higher than mine.) We lived, ate and breathed theatre together. We graduated together. And recently we reconnected at our twentieth year class reunion. Now, I'm not going to lie and say we're best buds, however I know the man. He's not trying to pull one over Hollywood.

I'm sure you'll disagree, so I have a personal dare. I dare you to get a direct quote from him espousing your views, rather than pulling from his show.

I am so saddened that the Supreme Court didn't over turn Prop 8. I will never in my entire life understand prejudice and how it is condoned by so many, whether it be about skin color, same sex marriage or whatever else brings out hatred in people. Change will come, I have to believe that. It just may take awhile.
Take care, Sue

I just don't understand why people can't let people just be. Live and let live. Don't like it, don't look. It's pretty simple.

I'm back packing the blogosphere today, thought to stop by and say HI...

Oh, and congrats on your marriage certificate!! :)

Prop 8 wasn't overturned and I'm mad and saddened. Prejudice in any form just ticks me off. I'm glad you have your marriage license. If it was me, I'd want to take a copy and stuff it up someone's ass. An author I read frequently posed the question, "Just what don't they understand about love?"
How dare someone else dictate if someone can marry or not. It's just wrong.

Stephen Colbert is a genius and one of the reasons why is that he has people saying things like you just quoted.

www.couragecampaign.org is a group I've been contributing to and working through. I hope that through them and the many organizations like them, that we will prevail in our quest to secure civil liberties for every legal citizen of this country.

We must continue to write letters, sign petitions, vote and speak out!

Grrr. The Daily News news release says that marriages performed during the legal 'window' are indeed still legal, but what if there's a movement to undo those marriages? Grrr. We are all humans and deserve equal protection under the law.

I was really saddened to hear about the Supreme Court's decision yesterday.

Hoping this isn't a rude question but how does it affect your marriage? I assume they(the law) cannot rescind the valid legal contract?

I found you via errant parent and I just wanted to say that I love your writing. You crack me up. And I'm terribly sorry about Prop 8. Marriage is love, we should all be equal.
